Flights to/from Dublin

It all depends on where you are coming from. There is a great map on the Dublin Airport website that shows what flights arrive into Dublin.

To/From Canada:

We flew directly from Toronto to Dublin on Air Transat in August. There are only two airlines, to the best of my knowledge, that fly directly between Ireland and Canada - Air Canada and Air Transat. You have to be careful, since both of them only fly direct in the summer season (April to October). You will have to go via a connecting flight if you want to fly in the winter season. The biggest hubs that you will be able to catch a connecting flight at are London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, New York, Chicago or Atlanta.

To/From the US:

There are several hubs in the US from which the planes depart directly to Dublin. These are Atlanta, New York and Chicago, to name the biggest. The airlines that fly directly there are Aer Lingus, Delta, to name the few.

When flying to US from Dublin, be prepared to cross the US border in Dublin airport. You should allow yourself plenty of time after the security check to walk to the US departing gates and face the immigration agents there. The line up may be quite long, so do not spend too much time in the Duty Free shops.

To/From Europe:

Ireland is famous for its discount airline - Ryanair. You should have a look at Ryanair route map to see where it flies. Beware of the fact that Ryanair flies to remote airports that are usually quite far from the main cities, so you will have to spend some time on the bus/train to get to your destination. For example, to get to Amsterdam you will need to fly to Eindhoven and take a train for an hour to Amsterdam.

Yet another low cost airline is Aer Lingus, which flies to many European destinations, as well as to the US. Here is Aer Lingus route map.

Elsewhere:

The only other direct destination from Dublin is Abu Dhabi, with Etihad Airways servicing this route.

For all the other locations be prepared to catch a connecting flight. When booking your flights it makes sense to use travel aggregator sites, such as the ones listed below. There are several reasons why you may want to do that:
  • Most of the sites will give you the connecting flight information.
  • Some sites, like SkyScanner, will include budget airlines, like Ryanair, that help you manage your multi-destination trip better.
  • In some cases, because of the affiliate discounts, you can save a few Euro on these sites!
