Renting a car in Dublin

Renting a car is relatively pain free, even if you are a foreigner. All you need is a driver’s license from your country of origin and a credit card.

All of the car rentals have presence in the airport, but if you do not want to go that far you can find a few places in the centre. Beware that there is frequently a separate charge, something like €25, to get a car outside the airport. The companies call it Vehicle Transportation fee, which is basically the fee to bring the car from their airport location, which is a load of bull.

You should shop around online and book online as well. Make sure you do this a few days in advance. Booking online is much cheaper than booking at the rental agency.

I have rented with Sixt in town, which was a very pleasant experience. Friends of mine also rented from Thrifty and Budget and the prices were generally lower than at Sixt. I recommend you browse all of the rental agencies.
